Klain House
Building, structure
The Klain House was built in the spirit of Art Nouveau and eclecticism between 1902 and 1903 for the Ede Klain family. According to historical sources, the southeastern bastion of the city fortification stood here, as well as its gate, which was known as the Market Gate or the Bát Gate (a national road built from the direction of the Bát village led in this direction). The building housed apartments, but the Bars County People's Bank also operated here, which was one of the strongest and most stable financial institutions in the district. Béla Wilheim's grocery store, the Roth family's hardware store, Jónás Blumenthal's general store, and the Borcsányi and Csermák tailoring and clothing store were located here. The Klain House was nationalized in 1948. The dilapidated building was renovated in 1992.
