Memorial to the heroes of World War I in Kiskalná

Statue, monument, memorial plaque

In many settlements, the Reformed Church played a significant role in almost every aspect of the creation of war memorials, from the collection to the inauguration. A good example of this is the inauguration ceremony of the memorial placed in the square in front of the Reformed church in Kiskálna, former Bars county, which took place exclusively with the participation of representatives of the Reformed Church, and the speeches were also given by the local Reformed pastors. The already inaugurated memorial was also taken over by the local representative of the Reformed Church, which is quite an unusual practice; during my research I did not find any other data on this in the practice of either the Catholic or the Lutheran Church. "The monument is erected in the most beautiful place in the village, on the square of the parish church. Before the ceremony, a service was held in the parish church, which was conducted by the parish priest of Mohi, G. Endre Soós. Explaining the significance of the memorial columns, his sermon had a profound effect on the congregation celebrating the celebration. After the service, the inauguration of the monument took place on the church square. The inauguration speech was given by the parish priest of Léva, Gyula Antal. Recalling the poignant events of the World War, he presented the great loss that befell the Hungarian people, based on statistical data, and of which the 17 heroic dead of Kiskalná also became victims. During his speech, the shroud fell from the monument, the grieving families sobbed, and everyone shed tears. Then he blessed it, handing the monument over to the village and church authorities for care. Imre Tóth The pastor of Garamlök also gave a speech, who, pointing out the great tasks of fulfilling one's duty and faithful work, had an inspiring effect on the celebrating audience. In addition to the speeches, the dignity of the ceremony was enhanced by the two mournful songs performed by the Kiskálna Reformed Church Choir under the leadership of the cantor teacher János Szobi. (…) On behalf of the village and church authorities, the local Reformed pastor Károly Konta took over the monument, promising to take care of it. In addition to the Reformed pastor and teacher, the monument committee, as well as Judge Dezső Szűcs and Caretaker András Patay worked diligently and persistently to ensure that the monument was created…”
