Cross with Pietà depiction
Sacral small monument
The red marble cross stands in the town square, next to the parish church. On the pedestal, the Sorrowful Mother appears as a Pietà representation. What makes this relief different from most Pietàs is that here both Mary and the dead Jesus wear crowns. This pictorial representation somewhat foreshadows Mary's later glorification. Although one of Mary's attributes is the crown, according to Christian tradition, the coronation took place at the end of her earthly life, when she was taken up to heaven.
