Cross in the new cemetery

Sacral small monument

The oldest crucifix in the village is the central cross of the Alsóipolynyék cemetery. It can be seen today in the area between the cemetery and the church, as it remained in its original place during the landscaping. The village clerk Samu Tomka wrote about it in a report sent to Frigyes Pesty in 1865. He mentions that the village's magnificent Church stands on the Kosztontzai Plain, on the border of Alsóipolynyék, with its tall tower, and that "the cemetery at its side - surrounded by a moat and mostly planted with acacia trees - can be seen in good condition, where a stone cross" can also be seen "with the image of Jesus Christ". (1984:30) The straight-stemmed, two-stepped, greyish-white stone cross, set on a stone foundation, was erected in the 18th century. Its body is made of brown-colored sheet metal and has been recently renovated. ; The cross, carved from a single stone, was erected in 1796.
