Kecske-kapu Lutheran Cemetery

The Kecske Kapui Lutheran Cemetery is the third Lutheran cemetery in the Old Town. The first was the Michael Cemetery, on whose site the Holy Trinity Church now stands. The second was on the plot between the Konvent and Líceum Streets, where Mátyás Bél and other significant Lutheran figures were buried. Today, the buildings of the Lutheran schools and tenement houses stand in its place. The other, now liquidated cemetery was established in Virágvölgy, at the Récse toll booth. It had a Catholic and Lutheran part, separated by a row of chestnut trees. This still lines the street. ; The Kecske Kapui Lutheran Cemetery was opened in 1783, among gardens and vineyards. It was wooded and continuously expanded with the purchase of additional plots. In 1868, Ignác Feigler Jr. built a chapel. His sacral buildings reflected the romantic ideas of the 19th century, which is why the chapel is also neo-Gothic in nature. Today it is owned by the Baptist Church. ; The cemetery is home to numerous significant Lutheran figures - outstanding church figures -, the patron Jeszenák family, the martyred Pál Rázga and his wife, the writer Janko Jesenský, Dr. Gutherová-Mayerová and many others. Several monuments located here are valuable works of mainly 19th-century funerary architecture.
