Grave of Mihály Katona, geographer and preacher
Cemeteries, tombstones, graves
On April 17, 1923, in the old cemetery of Búcs, the parish priest of the ref. Church opened a hundred-year-old grave and searched for the remains of two human bodies in it. ; He found them. Of the two skulls, one had an unusually high forehead, and the other was remarkable because it was adorned with bright golden-yellow locks of hair and had a complete set of teeth. The coffins turned to yellow dust, but among the bones they found pieces of silk clothing, remains of a priest's robe and a gold ring with a stone missing, which had been covered with a dark patina by the hundred years. Based on the data of the memorial stones erected above the grave, it could be established without a doubt that the skull with the high forehead belonged to Mihály Katona, and the much smaller one with yellow silky hair belonged to Mrs. Éva Szarka, Mihály Katona's wife who died young. ; The church authorities were forced to open the grave by the fact that the old cemeteries, which were transferred to the names of the farmers when they were divided, were sold as houses and the buyers demanded that the tombstones be taken away so that they could start building. The dead should make way for the living. ; The church presbytery unanimously decided not to allow the ashes of Mihály Katona to disappear without a trace, not to allow human emotions and passions to fight over them, but to have his grave opened. ... his remains found there will be collected and placed in a new grave in the current cemetery. ; A large part of the population was present at the pious operation, and when the remains of the dead were transported away in addition to the simple ceremony of the Calvinists, the attendants mourned Mihály Katona again. ; Because Mihály Katona was a great scholar and an excellent pastor, who truly loved his people. Every step he took was a blessing. They heard it from their fathers.
