The grave of parish priest Károly Alajos
Cemeteries, tombstones, graves
Károly Alajos (1864–1942) was a church and community organizer in Szenc, whom we have almost forgotten. According to one of the reminiscences of Szenc, he was “highly respected in the entire area”. ; He was born in Vigonuovo near Venice on July 18, 1864. He completed his theological studies at the Pázmáneum in Vienna. He was ordained a priest on December 22, 1887. He was a chaplain in Udvard, Léva, Bratislava and Kirva. He was a parish priest in Szenc from 1899, and was appointed dean in 1907. Under his work, for example, the Rieger organ of the Szenc church was completed in 1901, which still works well today. ; The claim that he was deprived of his parish position between 1925 and 1937, if at all, is still unclear. He is credited with the first attempt to organize Hungarian consumer cooperatives in southern Slovakia in 1923. Under his leadership, the Szenc Consumer Cooperative was one of the founders of the Hanza Cooperative Goods Center in 1925. In 1939, he became a canon of Esztergom. In December 1939, he edited a Catholic newspaper under the title Plébániai Értesítő. ; He died on October 13, 1942. He is buried in the Roman Catholic cemetery in Szenc.
