Calvary sculpture group
Sacral small monument
Little is known about the history of the creation of the former "Calvary Hill", Calvary Hill, which was located between the former Nemesszeg and Tejed districts, more precisely at the end of Nemesszeg. However, it is certain that the 7 m high, 12 m diameter truncated cone-shaped elevation, built by human power, was already standing in the 1700s. ; Whether there were any stations (a series of fourteen paintings or reliefs depicting the Stations of the Cross of Jesus) of the Nemesszeg Calvary is unknown, but its wooden crosses are certain, which were replaced by the group of statues erected in 1808, which can be seen today in the Kisudvarnoki út cemetery. ; Throughout its history, many church processions were led to Calvary Hill, and the place itself was kept in order and protected with a fence. ; In 1959, during the anti-religious communist era, the hill, which was at least 200 years old, was demolished for road construction, and the group of statues standing on it was first banished to the area around the church, then to Kisudvarnok, later to the Calvary Hill named after it. From there, it was only returned to Dunaszerdahely after the change of regime – today it stands in the cemetery.
