Pál Kadosa Piano Concerto

Cultural heritage

Kadosa (Weisz) Pál (1903–1983), one of the greatest pianists, music pedagogues, and composers of his generation, and a leading figure in Hungarian music life after 1945, was born in Léva. He spent eight years there, then moved with his mother and younger brother to his grandparents in Nagyszombat, where he studied piano privately. The Kadosa family moved permanently to Budapest in 1918. In Slovakia, on October 24, 2019, the Elementary School of Arts in Léva solemnly adopted the name of Pál Kadosa, thus paying tribute to the greatness of the city's native. ; ; A total of fourteen years of the Kadosa Pál Piano Competition have been held so far, within the framework of which the participants, in addition to Kadosa, also recalled the spirit of significant Hungarian musical personalities (Bartók, Kodály, Liszt). Students who have graduated from a music school or from other professions – except for those who have graduated from a conservatory or a music college – can participate in some years of the Kadosa Pál Piano Competition. The competition is divided into five age groups: ; ; Age group I: no lower age limit up to 10 years old ; Age group II: 11–12 years old ; Age group III: 13–14 years old ; Age group IV: 15–17 years old ; Age group V: 18–25 years old ; ; The competitors’ repertoire covers certain stylistic periods of piano literature – baroque, classical, romantic, compositions by Pál Kadosa, possibly other Hungarian 20th-century and contemporary Hungarian composers. ; ; A total of nearly 500 students entered the competition, primarily from the southern, southwestern, but also central and eastern regions of Slovakia. ; ; The preparedness, talent and performance skills of the competitors are evaluated by a professional jury consisting of domestic and Hungarian, as well as internationally recognized experts. The organizers always ensure that one member of the evaluation committee is a Kadosa student. ; ; ; ; &nbsp,
