1. In the childhood of Jesus, ; In the city of Nazareth, ; From the beloved Saint Joseph, ; From his beloved foster-father. ; ; 2. They looked down from heaven with joy, ; Little Jesus was surrounded, ; Two rose-winged angels, ; He shone like the dawn. ; ; 3. Joseph’s soul was joyful, ; For the divine child. ; With great joy he said: ; – Loving little Jesus. ; ; 4. The holy work was finished, ; The little rose-tree. ; Jesus, like a bee, ; He came to his Virgin Mother with him. ; ; 5. The Virgin Mary asks, ; What did the tree mean, ; What did the tree mean? ; He kissed the little Jesus. ; ; 6. Jesus embraces his mother, ; He kisses her sweetly, ; My dear mother, I tell you, ; This is my deathbed. ; ; 7. Hearing this, the Virgin Mary, ; Overcome with grief, ; She clasps Jesus to her bosom, ; She bathes him with tears. ; ; 8. Not far, to a palm tree, ; In a little house, ; From her bosom, to the Virgin Mother, ; Holy thoughts arise!
