Roman Catholic Church dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Building, structure
The construction of the house of God here was only started in 1923, at the initiative of the parish priest of Lukanénye, Kálmán Haller. Until then, the faithful had been visiting the neighboring Leszenye Church of Our Lady. ; In the minutes of April 29, 1923, we can read about the land donation again: "The registrar states that the population, with the exception of 15-20 souls, is all Roman Catholic, since the religious denomination is the same as the political municipality, and since there is no church in the municipality, and its construction is a spiritual need, therefore he recommends that the municipality, as a legal entity, donate 400 square meters of land from the property number 573/b in Land Book No. 7 to the Roman Catholic community for the purpose of building a church." ; The people raised the money for the construction… The stone was quarried in the Csáb mines and carved locally by the masons of Zellő. The roof structure was the work of the local carpenter József Schmidl (Schmidt)… (he) also made the pulpit (István Siket, 1910.) The 1940 visitation states that the church was completed in 1925, and its builders were the “fidelibus loci”, i.e. the local faithful. The church can accommodate 300 people. It has two bells, one weighing 90 and one weighing 30 kilograms. ; The nave of the church, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, is rectangular and has a smooth ceiling. The ceiling of its polygonal sanctuary is the same, on which a large fresco can be seen. The work of the painter J. Drapka was completed in 1965 and depicts the Holy Trinity. … ; Above the altar stands the large statue of the Heart of Jesus, which has been in its original place since the consecration. Jesus is dressed in white, with a greenish purple cloak on the inside, and holds his left hand over his heart…. ; The church tower was originally made of wood only. The current slender tower is a more recent construction, built in 1948, and part of it was built into the nave. The four corners of the rectangular tower are decorated with wooden strips, and each has a latticed window facing each direction. The tower ends in a pointed arch, with a cross placed on a sphere. The tower houses three bells. The large bell was cast by the faithful in 1980. According to tradition, the small bell of the church was once brought here by the great flood on the Csábi stream (János Zöllei, 1938.) When the current tower was added to the church, the choir was also enlarged. In 1978, the church was completely renovated from the outside. The church's priest István Horváth and the bell ringer Károly Siket were instrumental in this. Recently, the church also received a new organ.
