Jesenák Palace

Building, structure

One of the elegant buildings on the Main Square, built in the 18th century by the baron Jeszenák family, who owned extensive estates in Bratislava County, on the site of a medieval house that previously stood here. The two-storey, gable-roofed palace, which adapts to the corner plot, has an "L" layout, is built in a closed row on the street, and is in the Baroque style. Its facade facing the square was once strongly influenced by the pillars that strengthened the walls. When these were dismantled at the end of the 19th century, Romanesque stone carvings: column fragments were found. Today, its facade is divided by Ionic-headed pilasters. The coat of arms of the building family can be seen in a stone-carved cartouche on the corner of the house. ; The Greek embassy is now located in the wing of the house facing the square, while a pastry shop is located on the ground floor on Halász-kapu Street.
