Rabbi Asad invited him to be the chief rabbi of the Szerdahely community in 1852. His yeshiva here became one of the most famous and sought-after. He dealt with almost all of the rabbinical sciences and had a wide range of knowledge. ; He was surrounded by legends even during his lifetime: his sharp mind, extraordinary piety and warm heart made him recognized and respected not only among Jews but also among Christian religious denominations. ; He died in 1866, and his grave in the Szerdahely Jewish cemetery is now a place of pilgrimage.
