Bust of painter József Janiga

József Janiga, known as the landscape painter of Csallóköz, was born in Párkány in 1946. In 1984, he moved with his family to Nagymegyer, where he became a teacher at the elementary school of art. In the meantime, a series of solo and group exhibitions mark each stage of his career, as well as illustrations for textbooks, storybooks, and children's magazines. In 1996, his right side was paralyzed due to a stroke. He continued his artistic work with his left hand. He died in Nagymegyer at the age of 58. His grave is located in the Reformed cemetery of Nagymegyer. In 2006, his bust, a work by sculptor György Lipcsey, was unveiled in the courtyard of the art school. In 2007, the school took on the honorary name of the Janiga József Art School.
