Tomb of János Janiga

Cemeteries, tombstones, graves

The tombstone of János Janiga was erected by the Párkány group of the Slovenian Hunting Protection Association after the unfortunate, fatal accident of the 31-year-old forest ranger from Párkány, which the Esztergom social newspaper reported on in 1930 as follows: ; "Fatal accident at the shooting competition in Párkány. The Párkány group of the Slovenian Hunting Association organized a clay pigeon shooting competition on Pentecost Sunday, in which more than 70 shooters participated. The competition, which was followed with great interest, ended sadly. József Kovacsik, a slavish judge — who is not a member of the hunting association — was preparing to shoot when his gun accidentally went off and the shot hit János Janiga, a 31-year-old forest ranger from Párkány, in the soft tissue at close range. The unfortunate man was seriously injured by car; he was immediately transported to the Kolos Hospital in Esztergom, where everything was tried to save him. However, the wound, which also contained shreds of clothing, became infected, and the patient showed signs of blood poisoning, so that one of Janiga's legs had to be amputated. This did not help either, and the victim of the accident suffered for three days. His body was transported to Párkány and after an official autopsy, he was buried with great sympathy. The official procedure has been initiated in the case of the fatal accident."
