Immaculata Column in Szentendre
Sacral small monument
The statue of the Immaculate Mary, standing on a tall column, was erected by the Bornemissza family in 1747 in memory of the plague epidemic of 1714. The statue of Mary, standing on a globe, wearing loose clothing and clasping her hands in prayer, is about to trample on the snake symbolizing "all evil". On the pedestal is a plaque regarding the renovation in 1911, with the inscription: ANNO 1911 RENOV. ADJUVANTIBUS JOANNE BOHONY ET UXORE BARBARA LASSU; In the previous system, the column was moved a few meters further away due to zoning, but its stone fence was never restored. The fence, which had lost its function, was hidden in the bushy area at the foot of the church hill.
