Igloi Lutheran Church
Building, structure
The Lutheran church, built in the classical style between 1790 and 1796, is a so-called tolerance church − Joseph II. With his decree of tolerance, he again allowed non-Catholics to practice their religion freely, so they could build their own churches without towers and bells. ; The interior of the church is decorated with a work by the Copenhagen painter Johann Jakob Stunder from 1797, which is an altarpiece depicting Christ praying on the Mount of Olives. The alabaster relief depicting the conversation between Christ and the Samaritan woman at the well can also be found here. The larch benches were made by master carpenter Thomas Thern in 1797. The organ was made by the Viennese master Friedrich Deutschmann between 1822 and 1823. Thanks to its excellent acoustics, the Lutheran church is a popular venue for classical music and organ competitions. ; The valuable library of the former Igló Lutheran School can still be found in the choir of the church, where the scent of past centuries can be felt on every page of the thousands of valuable books.
