Tomb of Dénes Pál Id., the poet of the prisoners of war from Nagybalog (Balogvölgy)

Cemeteries, tombstones, graves

Dénes Pál Id. was born in 1911 in Alsóbalog. He completed his studies in the Reformed school in Balog. Among his teachers, István Koós stood out, who had versatile knowledge, but was never proud of it. The other notable teacher was István Gál, who taught every child to plant trees, graft trees and grow vegetables. Dénes Pál was a simple peasant who traveled the Don Bend and was in Russian captivity for five years. During the captivity, misery, hopelessness, returning home, and the desire for freedom instinctively created his poems, as the saying is familiar: "every Hungarian person has a song in his soul!" ; Every year, his poems are recited and sung at the memorial for those deported to the Malenkiy robot. Dénes Pál Id. made six zithers in his retirement and taught the children of Balog to play the zither. The children learned it so well that they performed several times at the event called "Singing Balogvölgy" and in Rimaszombat at the beginning of May. ; His son, Dénes Pál Jr., included the story of his father, Nagybalog, and the Balogvölgy in the book "The Teacher Uncle of Balogvölgy". His grandson Csaba Pál is the current president of the Csemadok Nagybalog Foundation.
