Hontvarsány Reformed Church
Building, structure
The Árpád-era monument church in Hontvarsány was built in the middle of the 12th century in the Romanesque style. Since 1655, it has been the church of the Reformed congregation in Hontvarsány. It partially burned down at the beginning of the 19th century, but was rebuilt in 1835. The church underwent partial exterior and interior restoration in 1932 and 1956. In 2016, within the framework of the Rómer Flóris Plan, the treatment and repair of the shingle roof and the renovation of the facade were completed under the management of the Teleki László Foundation. ; Hontvarsány has about 450 inhabitants, a quarter of whom are still Hungarian, or more precisely of Hungarian origin. There are barely forty who claim to be Hungarian. They are all members of the Reformed church, as the Catholic Hungarians have assimilated long ago. The services are led by the Reverend from Leva, and are attended by approximately fifteen people each Sunday.
