Parish priest János Skadra. ; ; Laying of the foundation stone of the Szemet church - Aug. 11, 1929 ; The great celebration of the laying of the foundation stone of the Roman Catholic church in Szemet. Notables at the consecration ceremony. Beautiful example of Szemet village. An uplifting ceremony took place on Sunday afternoon, the 11th of this month, in the village of Szemet. The church construction works - as we have already written - had progressed so far that the foundation stone laying ceremony could now take place, which took place in an extremely uplifting manner. The ceremony began at four o'clock in the afternoon, when the guests arrived. The cavalry band of the Szemet lads went out to welcome them. They were welcomed by a ceremonial gate and the band of the Somorja volunteer fire brigade, as well as a group of girls in white dresses, who presented a flower to each entrant and then sold souvenirs. More than 2,000 crowns were collected in the cauldron placed next to the ceremonial gate. The following arrived: János Mészáros, Vicar General of the Archbishopric of Budapest, Géza Szüllő, President of the Christian Socialist Party and Member of the National Assembly, Dezső Nagy, an architect from Bratislava who designed the church and is leading the construction works - and his family, Kálmán Marceli, District Judge of Somorja, Ev. János Tyukos, Episcopal Parish Priest, Papal Chaplain Sándor Leszkai, Parish Priest of Great Hungary, N. Tyukos, Religious Teacher from Budapest, Sándor Bresztyák, Somorja, János Mészáros, Parish Priests of Misérd and Ignác Holczinger, Illésháza, Ferenc Jesko, State Notary of the City of Somorja with his family, József Molnár, Chaplain of Somorja, István Elefánti, Master Builder from Bratislava, Head of the Construction Works, and many other notable guests from Bratislava and the surrounding area, an enthusiastic, large crowd. From the line of girls in white, Manci Orbán, accompanied by some touching words, presented a bouquet of flowers to the celebrant, Rev. János Mészáros, who happily thanked him for the nice surprise. In a high-winged, beautiful speech, the papal chaplain, Rev. János Tyukoss, praised the importance of building a church from a religious, moral, educational and national perspective. After his speech, which made an extremely deep impression, the vicar general blessed the place of the altar, then the entire foundation building around it, assisted by the clergy in full vestments. At that time, the founding deed made of dog skin - which also contains the names of the builders - was read out, coins were placed next to it, along with the blueprint of the church, which was placed in the copper case, which was placed in the foundation stone and consecrated. The young masons from Szemet immediately cemented the foundation stone into the foundation wall of the tower. Words cannot adequately express the enthusiastic willingness to sacrifice of the people of Szemet, who, making heavy financial sacrifices for the sake of the church, set an incomparably beautiful example of their selflessness throughout Slovenia. However, we cannot dwell on the selflessness and willingness to sacrifice of the architect Dezső Nagy from Bratislava, whose name we encounter on the occasion of every outstanding event of the Hungarian Catholicism of Csallóköz. After the consecration ceremony, the people of Szemet organized a social snack for the guests at the school, who were accompanied to the village border by the Szemet cavalry band upon their departure at seven o'clock in the evening. ; Sándor Bartal ; (Somorja and its region, August 17, 1929)
