Governor's Palace
Building, structure
"Also worth mentioning is the financial directorate building on the corner of the Main Square and Ferenciek Square, which housed the royal and imperial governorship in the 18th century and later in the absolute period, which is why it was commonly called the Consiliaris House. In the 18th century, it was a gateway building and received its current form after the annexation of the Zsigrai or Balázs house acquired in 1762. For a while, it was owned by Baron Paluschka. At times, it was treasury property. It houses the Royal Hungarian Financial Directorate, the Royal Hungarian Financial Guard and the cadastral inspectorates. In front of this building, in the middle of the Main Square, stood the military guard house, which was initially built of wood and was destroyed by fire in 1767, before being rebuilt in stone. Its balustrade was decorated with various military insignia and vases. This building was demolished in the 1960s."
