The railway played a significant role in the life of the Szent market town, as the railway line connecting Budapest with Vienna ran through the town. Galánta was connected to the Bratislava-Vác railway line on December 16, 1850. The preparatory work for the Galánta-Szered branch began in April 1883, and the line was opened to railway traffic on November 1, 1883. This made Galánta an important railway junction. The railway station building was expanded in 1899 by the Szent architect József Halzl. The railway provided many Galánta residents with income: in 1900 it employed 62 people.
