The grave of Martin Győrik

Márton Győrik, ľag. ev. lyceum teacher, born on 3 Oct. 1848 in Gáloson (now part of Austria) in Moson County. The son of a well-respected blacksmith, after attending the local elementary school his parents enrolled him in the junior high school in Magyaróvár. He completed his higher grades and theological studies at the Lutheran lyceum in Bratislava. After his studies he served his volunteer year, then worked as a tutor for two years. In 1877 he was elected a lyceum teacher in Bratislava. In the meantime, during the 1878 mobilization, he served as a lieutenant in the South Dalmatian military column. ; During his more than four decades of work, he became an internationally renowned expert in numismatics. He was the keeper of the famous Schimkó collection. ; He was the honorary president of the Bratislava City Beautification Association, whose fifty-year history he summarized in a book. ; ; Works: ; Schimkoianum, Bratislava, 1885–94. 11 volumes. ; Dr. Frigyes Dániel Schimko, a Vienna university professor and former student of the Bratislava Lyceum, left his magnificent medal collection of 16,000 pieces, which he had collected for 40 years, to the Bratislava Ecclesiastical Lyceum in 1867. In 1882, Győrik was elected custodian of this collection and, after three years of preliminary study and organization, he published 11 booklets from their list in Bratislava from 1885 to 1894 under the title Schimkoianum (I. Commemorative coins of famous people 1885, II. Coins of Hungary 1886, III. Greek coins 1887, IV. Antiquities 1887, V., VI., Roman coins 1889–90, VII. Portuguese, Spanish and French coins 1891, VIII. British, Italian and Swiss coins 1892, IX. Belgian, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Russian-Polish coins 1893, X. Austrian coins 1894, all of these booklets were published by the Bratislava branch of the Catholic Lyceum. They were published in his Bulletin before and then in a special edition, a total of 61 sheets, the XI. booklet on 12 sheets, which includes the German coins, the coins of the states of the Balkan Peninsula, as well as Asia, Africa, America and Australia and the miscellaneous coins, is also printed on 12 sheets in the 1895.
