The Eszterházy couple lost their third child on January 23, 1870. Count Géza Eszterházy passed away without descendants at the age of 36. ; In this tragic year for the Eszterházy family, the cross was erected next to the family's funeral chapel. The cross is made of red marble, the corpus is made of metal, and a statue of the Virgin Mary stands beneath it.
