Görgey Castle in Toporc
Building, structure
The ancient highland estate center of the Görgey clan is Toporc, which their ancestor, the lord of Szepes county, received as a gift from King Béla IV in 1256 for his heroic deed during the Tatar invasion. The Görgeys were present here for a good 700 years, but as their dilapidated old castle shows, they no longer have a place here. However, the building was last completely renovated in 1907 and was in good condition until 1943, when Albert Görgey died, but then came the new era, the world of the tees and proletarians, who swept away the old as if it had never existed. However, during the Görgeys' time, Toporc even had a gymnasium, where Greek, Latin and German were taught. The Astra Civic Association took over the castle from the village in 2011 and is gradually submitting applications for the renovation. The building is currently undergoing conservation, but I would like to completely renovate it.
