Levoca, 1816. Mar. 3. János Görgey, landowner, son of the Royal Hussar Major and Johanna Bosnyák, brother of Kornél Görgey, Lieutenant Colonel of the 1848 Hungarian Army. Hungarian, Evangelical. Graduated from the Tulln Military School. Retired as a first lieutenant (served in the 9th Hussar Regiment from 1830-1839), farmed on his estate. His wife was Klementina Badányi (died in Késmárk, 1884), married. ; July 23, 1848 - adjutant of the Levoca National Guard (Gr. Major Ágoston Csáky) with the rank of first lieutenant. Dec. 28 (Oct. 1). appointed captain to the 1st Hungarian Army Rifle Regiment, but does not enlist there. (He officially resigns in May 1849.) ; Later lives on his estate. He was an official of economic associations. In 1869, he took an active part in the founding of the Szepesi Credit and Industrial Bank – the most outstanding financial institution in Szepesi – in Levoča. He supported tourism and travel in the Tatra Mountains. From 1873, he was the president of the Hungarian Carpathian Association. ; His grave is located in Sector IV of the cemetery.
