In 1869, a fire destroyed the St. László Church in Csútörökhely, burning down the roofs of the church towers, the chapel, the monastery and the nearby wooden school. The then abbot of the monastery, Pastor Alfonz Gmitter, collected donations from the faithful for more than 20 years until the amount needed for the reconstruction was collected. ; The grave of Alfonz Gmitter can be seen in the courtyard of the St. László Church in Csútörökhely.
