After graduating from elementary school, he continued his studies at the famous Pápai Reformed College. In the 1860s, the Pápai College was the only educational institution in the parish that prepared students for and held graduation exams. István Bocsor was his history teacher, Lajos Tarczy taught him quantity and natural science, and Károly Kerkapoly taught him philosophy. He participated in the work of the Educational Society and in the youth movements organized against Austrian oppression. ; The most outstanding teachers of the time kept the ideas of the freedom struggle alive in the students of Pápa even during the period of autocracy, and the effect of this education was evident throughout the entire career of Sámuel Gáspár. ; After completing his studies, the talented young man worked as an assistant teacher, and then as a cantor teacher in his native village. He married Juszti Bödők, a single woman from Csicsó, and they had two children: József and Amália. ; He tried to create the basic conditions for education with a Hungarian national spirit. One of his main aspirations was to teach the Hungarian language, history and geography with national content. ; He encouraged national resistance in the county against the domination of Vienna. He participated in the work of the Industrial Protection Associations supporting domestic industry, and encouraged farmers in Csíssó to introduce new agricultural methods and purchase modern agricultural machinery. After the Compromise of 1867, the need to build an effective flood protection system became increasingly clear. He also took steps in this matter with the Hungarian government. ; In his speeches at county assemblies, he condemned the illegalities of the anti-constitutional power and supported the core group of the constitutional defense. On several occasions, he got into sharp exchanges with the compromisers, who then not only threatened him, but also initiated a lawsuit for disloyalty against him.
