Gács World War I Memorial
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
The monument to the fallen of World War I is a tall gray marble column, which ends in a sphere with the inscription "1914–1918". According to the inscription on the Slovak-language plaque attached to the column, the monument was built between the two world wars by the residents of the district seat of Fülek for the district seat of Gács, as a sign of good relations between the two cities. The monument and its surroundings were then taken care of by Ján Bohúska. The text containing the names of the fallen of World War I was written in Hungarian. After World War II, a white marble slab in Slovak was attached to it (presumably covering the original Hungarian text) with the inscription "Na pamiatku padlých v rokoch 1914–1918" (In memory of those who fell in the years 1914–1918).
