Note: ; Other variants: Bodrogkeresztúr (Ilona Dobos, 1988. 347., 349.), Karcsa (Iván Balassa, 1963. 171., 259-261., 358-359., 375., 455.), Torna county (Zoltán Magyar, 2001. 552-553.), Zabar (Péter Villányi, 1992. 158-159.). The crested snake is common in the northern parts of the Hungarian-speaking area. According to Iván Balassa: “it is familiar in the northeastern parts of the Hungarian-speaking area, probably the same as what is called the zomok snake in Bereg” (Iván Balassa, 1963. 532.). Its strong, whistling voice is also mentioned elsewhere (Torna, Szatmár, Bihar, Tátra Lomnica). It is not listed in Bihari's catalogue.
