In Fülek, on Heroes' Square, stands the memorial column commemorating the victims of the First World War in Fülek, which was built in 1928 by the Fülek town community. ; The ceremonial unveiling of the monument took place on September 30, 1928 and was consecrated by the Franciscan abbot of Fülek. ; On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, the renovation of the monument was initiated by the tradition-preserving Koháry Civic Association. The pedestal of the monument was strengthened with a foundation, the white marble relief placed on the side of the memorial column was repaired, and the marble memorial column and the lettering were cleaned. ; László Estefán, president of the Koháry Civic Association, thanked the organizations and individuals for the mostly free help provided during the renovation. Vince Erdős, vice-president of the Koháry Civic Association, gave a ceremonial speech. The renovated monument was rededicated by chaplain János Zsóka. István Mázik participated. At the end of the ceremony, representatives of political parties and civil organizations as well as private individuals paid their respects to the victims of the World War and placed their wreaths and bouquets on the pedestal of the renovated, rededicated monument. ; After that, a new exhibition entitled “To my people” stories from the First World War was opened in the city museum.
