Fülek Reformed Church
Building, structure
There was a Reformed church in Fülek once upon a time, but over time it disappeared along with the Templars. ; The Reformed people living here today thought they needed a place to meet. A fine example of cooperation is the rebirth of the Protestant traditions of the 16th-17th centuries, the new Reformed church consecrated on November 10, 2002. ; It was built with all public donations and joint work. The bricks of the almost collapsed Reformed church from Bellény were brought to Fülek by 30 trucks. Here they were cleaned piece by piece and used like that. The church bell is also from the old Bellény church. ; The benches were carved by masters from Krasznahorka, from wood cut there. The following text can be read on the inner wall of the pulpit: “Carved with kindness in the autumn of 2002 on behalf of the Reformed church in Fülek by István Ulman, Lajos Baffy and their associates.” ; The other is an important message for us too – a free version of Áron Tamási’s thought – which is also carved into the inside of the pulpit: The bird has wings and freedom, we have our homeland and much to do. ; Almost the entire clergy of the Gömör Reformed Diocese was present at the festive service held at the consecration of the church. Many visited home for this festive occasion. At the beginning of the ceremony, the women’s choir of Losonc, the men’s choir and the women’s choir of Fülek sang together with the celebrating audience of more than four hundred people the Sermon and the 90th Psalm, considered the anthem of the Reformed Church. After the welcoming words of the caretaker Pál Benko, the Reformed Bishop Géza Erdélyi blessed the church and handed it over to the faithful. Local representatives of the Catholic and Evangelical churches also participated in the festive service. In his celebratory sermon, Bishop István Miklós thanked all donors, helpers, and well-intentioned supporters for their help, especially highlighting the role of former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and former State Secretary Zsolt Németh in the construction of the church. The city was represented by Mayor Lajos Fejes and most of the city office employees. The city also contributed with funds, labor, and machinery to the construction of the new church of the Reformed Church in Fülek last year.
