Fritz Wowy's tombstone

Fritz Wowy died in the air battle of Görz (now Gorizia, Italy) in the summer of 1917. On the tombstone we see a young man standing on the back of a bird with outstretched wings. He wears an open, flowing cloak on his naked body, and holds a wreath of glory in his hand. The tombstone was made by the Bratislava sculptor Alajos Rigele in 1919. ; The inscription on his tombstone: ; "Fritz Wowy K.u.K Fliegeroberleutnant gefallen im 22. Lebensjahre am 3. Juni 1917 im Luftkampfe bei Görz. Friede seiner Asche!" (Imperial and Royal Flight Lieutenant Fritz Wowy died in air combat near Görz at the age of 22 on June 3, 1917. Peace to his ashes!)
