Fritz House
Building, structure
It was named after the original resident of the house, the mine owner Leopold Fritz von Friedenlieb. The Fritz House was one of the most notable buildings of the Academy. This was the A-building, where the rector's office was located even during the college period. The building also housed a council chamber, library, archives, as well as a mechanical engineering department and a tool shed. The Academy had been renting the house since 1829, and then purchased it in 1885. After acquiring ownership, it was rebuilt according to the plans of architect Frigyes Schulek, but even then it was not enough to meet the space needs of the expanding Academy. The Molnár pub operated on the ground floor for a long time, where the Hungarian Society once held its meetings. After the change of empire, the house was used as barracks for a while. Although the most recent renovation restored its original appearance, the inscriptions referring to the college were not restored. (The building currently houses a mining archive)
