Fegyvernek Catholic Chapel

Building, structure

The Catholic Chapel, the Catholic House, which also included the Hungarian Catholic school that was closed down in 1947, was consecrated by Dr. János Drahos, the archbishop general vicar of Esztergom, during the pastoral ministry of Tibor Pogonyi. According to the testimony of the surviving members of the Catholic Girls' Association (Kalász) that was active at that time, the Catholic House was consecrated in honor of the Great Mother of the Hungarians/Patrona Hungarica/. The Index Book of the Primate's Archives of Esztergom, which records the year 1943, does not contain an entry for the actual consecration. According to the oral testimony of the employees of the archives concerned, the founding document of this consecration was not originally written or has not survived. The bell of the chapel was cast by Antal Novotny in honor of Saint Anthony of Padua in 1907 in Timisoara. Its original location was the belfry between the Gergely and Csábi gates.
