Covered stairs in Trenčín
Building, structure
Next to the town hall, on the street going up to the east, we reach a covered staircase, through which the road leads to the parish church, or, according to its old name: the "Marienburg". The building was built in 1568 as part of the city's defenses. On the top step of the staircase there is a tastefully made crucifix - which commemorates the fire of 1886. (On this occasion, the church, along with the terraced houses under the castle in the city center, fell prey to the flames.) This inscription marks its memory: VoraCIs VICtIMa InCenDII pIIs reVIXI obLatIs.
