Evangelical church

Building, structure

The church was only built in 1863 after the Lutheran community was founded in Dunaszerdahely in 1821. The small congregation had previously built a pastor's and teacher's residence in 1823. ; The church itself was completed in a simplified neo-Romanesque style over twenty years, in large sections and with interruptions (stops) – as finances allowed. In 1876/77, it seemed that the work would stop completely, and the part of the building that had been erected until then would disappear. The construction was finally completed in 1883 with the help of the Gusztáv Adolf Association – at that time the church still had no tower. ; “Its location is from the northeast to the southwest, its entrance is to the northeast, it faces Szécsényi Street, from which it is blocked by an iron fence. Around it is the pastor’s yard on one side, and his garden on the other. It is 24 meters long, 12 meters wide, and about 20 meters high when viewed from the outside. It was built from 1863 to 1883 from brick and covered with slate. (…) Its external and internal shape is simple, but pleasing to the eye. ; Its construction style is modern, reminiscent of the Romanian construction style, but not so solid and heavy, its windows are large and wide in ivy shapes. It is convenient to enter.” – they write. The tower of the building – which was only built in 1938 for the church – slightly exceeds the plane of the main facade. ; Its marble baptismal font dates from 1883, its organ from 1903, while its neoclassical main altar, made in Bánya Biszterce, dates from 1933. The church's pulpit was donated to the community by local master builder Gyula Wyberál. ; ;
