Esterházy Palace
Building, structure
South of the once walled Old Town, on the corner of Coronation Hill Square and the upper embankment on the Danube, stands the four-storey Esterházy Palace, built in 1870. The concept of the "U"-shaped building reflects the influence of the Viennese court architect Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach, but the actual designer of the building was A. Huter. The main gate opens in the middle of the nine-axis facade overlooking the square, above which a balcony resting on consoles on the first floor juts out. ; The building now houses the Slovak National Gallery, and a restaurant operates on the ground floor.
