Elizabeth Hotel
Building, structure
The hotel was built by Baron Ármin Popper (Podhragyi) (September 8, 1860, Nemeskutas – June 19, 1924, Budapest), a large landowner and industrialist, in 1901, in the Art Nouveau style, based on the plans of E. Bleier, on the site of the former “Fekete csillagnál” restaurant, and named after Sisi the Erzsébet Hotel. Later, the baron allegedly lost the hotel at cards. In 1919, the hotel was purchased by the Tátra Bank, and was subsequently renamed the Tátra Hotel in 1921. The café operating in the hotel always bore the name Sisi. The building regained its original name after its complete renovation in 2012.
