Bust of István Erdődi Pálffy

The statue of István Erdődi Pálffy (June 3, 1828 – July 27, 1910), Count of Bratislava, Privy Councilor, and former Vice-President of the National Forestry Association, was inaugurated in 1913 on the square next to the Bratislava Theatre. The work was destroyed after World War I. ; ; "Count István Pálffy was born on June 3, 1828 in Vöröskővára, Bratislava County. His parents were Count Vincze Pálffy and Countess Apolllónia Csáky. He completed his secondary school and law studies in Bratislava. He began his public career in 1846 as an officer's sub-secretary of Bratislava County, then in 1848 he became a draftsman in the first Hungarian Ministry of the Interior, but in December of the same year he resigned from his position. After the War of Independence, he retired to his parents in Vöröskővára. Later, at his father's request, he re-entered the state service and worked in the Hungarian department of the Supreme Court, then based in Vienna, and then as a councilor of the Hungarian Royal Governorate. In 1856 he married Matild Dessewffy, daughter of the late Count Ferencz Dessewffy. In 1859 he finally left the state service and took over the the management of the Vöröskő manor inherited from his parents. ; In 1865 he was elected a member of parliament with a large majority in the Bazin district. Since then he has been constantly involved in public affairs. In 1856, the court appointed him trustee of the family seniority established in the will of Pál Nádor Pálffy from 1653, in which position he successfully worked for 43 years for the financial consolidation of the family institutions. As a virilist of the Bratislava county legislature, as well as a zealous president of the Bratislava branch of the public cultural and economic, as well as several charitable associations, such as the Hungarian Red Cross Association for many years, he worked with excellent success. Since 1856 he was a chamberlain of the king and queen and a member of the financial committee of the House of Lords.
