A memorial plaque was unveiled in the city in 1894 in honor of the poet, philosopher and ethnographer born in 1814. In 1964, the idea was born to erect a statue of the famous native of the city on the 100th anniversary of the poet's death, which was realized in 1968. Since then, János Erdélyi and his activities have been commemorated in front of the statue every time on his birthday, April 1. The statue is located in the square in front of the János Erdélyi MTNY Elementary School.
