Memorial Cemetery (former Lower Cemetery)
Cemeteries, tombstones, graves
"When the Puszta Church fell into ruin in the middle of the 19th century and the cemetery next to it was full, the dead of the village were laid to rest in the Lower Cemetery, located northwest of the present church. Only the nobles continued to be buried in the old cemetery on the hill... In the meantime, as the settlement grew larger, and as there were many victims of diseases such as cholera, the Spanish flu, and pneumonia, and child mortality was high, this cemetery also filled up and a newer one, the Upper Cemetery, was opened opposite it. No burials had been made in the former for a long time, but the latter also had several graves that were not cared for, and in many cases the descendants of the deceased were no longer alive... A few years ago, the municipality of the village established the memorial cemetery on the site of the Lower Cemetery. The abandoned grave markers are kept here... A beautiful bell tower was also erected in the cemetery. The soul bell, the small bell that was first in the old inner church, i.e. the Mary Chapel... Not far from the entrance, four large marble slabs stand in a circular gravel base, each with a quote from the Gospel or the Book of Revelation. On the marble slabs we find 87 names whose gravestones no longer exist... "
