Memorial plaque in memory of the heroes who fell in World War I
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
The First World War left a deep mark on the history of Bátka. The people of Bátka were enlisted in the joint imperial and royal infantry regiment of Losonc and the Bánya Bisztercebánya honvéd infantry regiment. They fought on the Russian front at Gorlice and Limanova, and on the Italian front at Caporetto. Some were taken to war work to build roadblocks or dig trenches. The men had to leave their families, most of them did not have the opportunity to see their loved ones again. The Great War claimed 14 victims from Bátka. By name: Lajos Szívos, Lajos Vitalís, János Mács, Barna Tóth, István Tóth, János Tóth, János Boholy, József Breznai, János Csík Fejes, József Bata, György Kovács, József Nagy, István Nagy, Makszi Bari. The heroes are commemorated by a memorial plaque placed in 1928 on the wall opposite the pulpit of the Reformed church, made by Ferenc I. of Rimaszombat. ; The photo shows János Boholy (1892-1919). Next to him is Mária Koósné Patko (1867-1956). János Boholy returned home sick at the end of 1918, which he attributed to the mustard gas he inhaled on the Italian front. He died a year later due to lack of medical care.
