World War I Memorial

Statue, monument, memorial plaque

The heroic monument, built by Alajos Rigele in 1925, is a stone sarcophagus held on the shoulders by four lions. The architectural plans were made by Endre Szőnyi (Jászberény, 1885 - Bratislava, 1968) and Franz Wimmer (Bratislava, 1885 - Locham, 1953). Szőnyi and Wimmer had a joint architectural office in Bratislava between the two world wars. ; According to some sources, the stones of János Fadrusz's Maria Theresa monument in Bratislava, which was destroyed in 1921, were also used for the construction. ; The monument stands in a forest clearing on the Murmann Heights, in the area of the Mountain Ornamental Garden.
