The history of the Jews of Gelle is the same as the history of the Jews of Csallóköz and its beginnings date back to the beginning of the 18th century. Local censuses mention the merchant Isaác Salamon as early as 1710 and a 1715 document mentions the name of Herschl Marcus, who presumably lived with their families in the village. In the 1848 census we find the names of seven – presumably – individuals or families of Jewish origin. ; The great holidays – Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, Pesach and others – were prayed in the synagogue of Dunaszerdahely, but thanks to the Chevra Kadisha holy association, a small prayer house (Bet Hamidrash) was also established in Gelle so that the faithful could pray there daily and on Saturdays. ; At first, the Jews of Gelle were buried in Tejfalu (occasionally in Felbár), later in Dunaszerdahely. However, the documents reveal that as the Jewish community of Gelle grew stronger, they established their own cemetery in Egyházgelle in 1884. ; The cemetery had been neglected for decades, the tombstones had fallen over, and the agricultural activity in the area was not conducive to the cemetery's survival. The renovation of the cemetery is the result of an international collaboration, in which the lion's share was taken by: Cháim Fuchs (grandson of Yiccakh Fuchs, who is buried here), entrepreneur László Viola, engineer Tibor Kornfeld (representative of the Jewish community of Dunaszerdahely) and local historian Ján Hevera.
