Unique landmark of Bény

Cultural heritage

I think the two ladies who were placed on the pengő have a unique story in the world. Zoltán Kodály, who conducted folk music research between 1935 and 1942, noticed the beautiful, yet unique costumes of our village and the wearers of the costumes, the more beautiful girls and brides. ; He told a painter friend what he had seen in Bény, who was taken aback by what he had heard and visited Bény to paint a suitable lady or two. That is how the five women were placed on the pengő, as a young bride, Júlia Csonka, born Ferencné Bugárdi, with a braid on her head. ; On the other hand, Valéria Rudas, as a grand daughter, with a braid in her hair. ; Their merit before the world is that, apart from Queen Elizabeth, they were the only ones who were still paid money in their lives. ; Unfortunately, neither of them are alive anymore, but I think there is no need for any other comment as proof, the money can still be found with the collectors. ; As far as I know, they did not receive any benefits for the painting. ; ; Informant Katalin Koczka ; Bény, 2020. 4. 20. ; ; “Valéria Rudas was a famously beautiful girl. My uncle was her fiancé. Unfortunately, their love story had a sad end. My uncle was drafted into the military, and the girl went to the Czech Republic for work. She got married there. Later, my uncle also got married, and he only mentioned his former love in his old age. The girl remained a painful memory for him,” said Gyula Koczka from Bény. ; Valéria Rudas worked for a dentist in the Czech Republic. “Many people think they got married, but that’s not how it happened. The doctor was called Vilém Goldflam, while Valéria was married to a man named Malý. Unfortunately, we don’t know much more about Valika, she lived her life in the Czech Republic,” said Polka. ; ; Csonka Julianna’s son and his family still live in Bény today. “My mother was born in 1920. She married my father early, but gave birth to me relatively late, at the age of 37,” said István Bugárdi, Csonka Julianna’s only son. “She rarely mentioned her youth. They lived modestly and honestly with my father. I don’t know that our family received any money for my mother’s face to be on the pengő. Her beauty was surpassed only by her kindness,” said István Bugárdi, who has two children. According to the father, his daughter inherited her grandmother’s features.
