Monument to Tivadar Edl

Statue, monument, memorial plaque

Edl Tivadar (1805-1882) was a former defining personality of Bratislava. He played a leading role in the political, economic and cultural life of the city. The foundation of the First Bratislava Savings Bank, the Bratislava Voluntary Firefighters' Association, and the Bratislava Gymnastics Association are associated with his name. He was the president of the Bratislava Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the owner of several other businesses, a royal councilor, and was known as an excellent pianist. He was a full member of the Bratislava City Beautification Association and other social organizations. The monument was erected at the place where he suffered a stroke on June 14, 1882, while on an excursion with friends, and died immediately. Unfortunately, the monument is neglected and no one knows it except his descendants and tourists who visit it.
