Sándor Markó, a legal scholar and royal notary, was born in Rozsnyó in 1847. He was a parliamentary stenographer for a short time, but after obtaining his law degree he settled in Rimaszombat. ; In 1875, when the royal notary institution was established, he submitted an application for a position as a notary. As a result, he was appointed royal notary in Rozsnyó. He was one of the founders of the Royal Chamber of Notaries of Košice. As a legal writer, his articles were published, which were related to the practical issues of notarial work. One of his works was the constitution of the Lutheran Church, entitled Church Law. He also wrote the 25-year history of the Royal Chamber of Notaries of Košice. ; In addition to his work as a notary, Sándor Markó also took an active role in the social and cultural life of the city of Rozsnyó. Between 1875 and 1912 he was a member of the school council of the Evangelical High School in Rozsnyó, from 1875 a member of the city council, from 1886 to 1893 he was the supervisor of the Evangelical Church in Rozsnyó, from 1896 to 1906 he was the president of the Savings and Pawnshop in Rozsnyó. From 1893 he was elected president of the Rozsnyó Social Club and the Rozsnyó Casino. In 1905 he gave a ceremonial speech as the president of the sculpture committee at the inauguration of the statue erected in memory of Franciska Hablavetz, born Count Dénesné Andrássy. In 1907 he took an active part in the erection of the Kossuth statue in Rozsnyó and in the organization of the ceremony held in memory of Ferenc II Rákóczi. ; The Hungarian National Chamber of Notaries commemorated him with the Markó Sándor Award, established in 2007. ; A book presenting his life and work, The First Notary of Rozsnyo, was published in 2011. It was written by Gábor Rokolya. ; On September 7, 2012, on the 100th anniversary of the death of Dr. Sándor Markó, a memorial plaque was unveiled in the Rákóczi Hungarian House in Rozsnyo. ; On February 24, 2017, his statue was unveiled in the Notaries' House in Budapest (VIII. district, Stróbl Alajos utca 3/b.)
