The grave of János Debrődi, a soldier from 1848/49

Cemeteries, tombstones, graves

On March 24, 1849, the unit of Major Lajos Beniczky routed the outnumbered imperial troops, and the only Hungarian victim of the battle was laid to rest in the city cemetery. On March 24, 1877, the military monument was unveiled on Kubinyi Square, next to the ref. church, in the presence of General Damjanich's widow, and at the same time the grave of János Debrődi was marked with a white marble tombstone. Originally, it was surrounded by a thick chain-link fence held by cast iron columns, but this was stolen in the early 1990s. ; Wreaths are laid during the traditional Kármán Days or on the occasion of a group visit. On March 14, 2008, the mayor of Emőd, Borsod County, in the company of two hussars who cherish tradition, placed a wreath of remembrance on the grave of the village's native, the heroic dead of the Battle of Losonc.
