Gergely Czuczor (1800-1866) was a Benedictine monk, poet, and linguist born in Andód, near Érsekújvár. ; A statue of Czuczor was first erected in 1906 on the promenade of Érsekújvár. This bronze statue was removed in 1946, and according to local legend, it was thrown into a nearby well. The statue in front of the Csemadok headquarters was made in 1966. It was presented at a memorial ceremony organized for the 100th anniversary of Czuczor's death. Its creator was the sculptor Juraj Meliš / György Melis (1942 - 2016), born in Érsekújvár.
